At the 2017 National Farm Machinery Show this year, John Deere showed its sprayers some love by debuting a new carbon-fiber boom and a freshly-designed CommandView III Cab.
The sleek, black carbon-fiber boom seemed pretty popular amongst showgoers. Its naturally corrosion-resistant and durable boom will be offered in widths of 120 feet and Deere’s widest length yet — 132 feet.
“The big thing about this boom is that it’s lightweight,” says Doug Felter, John Deere’s product marketing manager for application equipment. “It’s over a third lighter than its steel counterpart, saving a lot of weight and allowing us to be more productive with wider widths.”
Noticeable changes in the cab include a snazzy joystick (hydro handle), a 4600 CommandCenter display, and a redesigned CommandARM. The hydro handle has a more ergonomic shape, which is the biggest visual attention-getter, but it also is more customizable than other joysticks and offers buttons that growers can program as they wish.

Growers will also have the option of purchasing a heated and ventilated leather seat that swivels smoothly for convenience and visibility.
Deere will start taking orders for the new boom and CommandView III cab in June.
