How to Make DIY Seed Bombs – Recipe and Tutorial

These fun DIY seed bombs are a fantastic favor for weddings, baby showers, farm or garden themed birthdays, or just a fun hands on project for you and the kids. You can make seed bombs with just about any scrap paper from newspaper to colored card stock, making them easy to customize to your desired colors. Rip or shred scrap paper or newspaper – this is a great job for little ones. You can even purchase preshredded gift basket filler from the Dollar Tree, I used some shredded paper that came inside a box I received as packaging material.

You can use flower seeds from seed packets or you can use these tips to collect your own flowers seeds from your yard.

While I use cookie cutters to form my seed bombs, they could also be made in silicone molds giving you a wide variety of shapes as well

Directions:

Place paper and hot water into blender and let sit for 10 minutes.

Set up your workstation by covering a cookie sheet in newspaper, spread out 3-6 cookie cutters depending on the size.

Mix with your blender until all paper is reduced to a fine pulp.

Pour pulp mixture into a fine mesh strainer ( I use a mesh lingerie bag from the Dollar Tree), remove the majority of the water, you do not want to squeeze it all out or it will be difficult to shape and stick together.

Fill cookie cutter halfway with pulp mixture, pressing paper into all edges to define shape.

Sprinkle seeds into each cookie cutter.

Top with another 1/2″ of paper, again pressing it into corners and edges, packing it down well.

Allow to dry thoroughly, I place mine outside and they are usually dry after half a day in the sun.

Remove from molds, wrap individually or in sets of 2 or 3 inside bundles.
