These planting ideas can breathe new life into your borders and can really transform a space without the gardener having to break the bank.
Vegetables can look great in a border because of the diversity of foliage colour and shape, as this exciting mix of kohl rabi, dwarf beans and artichokes proves.
Towering tree ferns with large-leaved Gunnera is a classic combination and the addition of tall and airy white Agapanthus adds an exotic elegance.
Mustard yellow and rich purple makes for a sumptuous border. Roses, Achillea and Coreopsis provide the orangey-yellow hues, with vivid penstemons and Cirsium providing the purply contrast.
This ghostly blend of silver and blue shows how attractive different textures can look in a planting scheme. Finely cut foliage of silver Artemisia ‘Powis Castle’ mingles with the soft bottlebrush heads of Pennisetum. Towering Eryngium ‘Neptune’s Gold’ provides some eye-catching true blue.
