If you have livestock on your recreational property, you will need to know how to properly care for the animals. It is not always as easy as it might first appear, as you need to provide adequate food, housing and other elements. Whether your herd consists of two animals or 20, they will all require the same level of care and attention.
Here are a few tips for handling cattle safely on your property:
- Build fences that are secure and sturdy: One of the most important aspects of your property will be the fencing that surrounds it, especially if you have livestock. The fences need to be sturdy enough to keep the animals within the boundaries of your land, while also preventing wild animals from sneaking in.
- Have a steady supply of food and water: Of course, the livestock will need to be able to eat and drink whenever they please. Having a fresh supply of food and water is essential, especially in the unforgiving Texas sun. Be sure to check the water every couple of hours to ensure it remains cool enough for consumption.
- Make sure the pens are large enough: When the cattle need to escape from that Texas sun, they need to do so in a space that is large enough to comfortably house all of them. The pens need to be adequately sized for your animals.
