Kohlrabi and daisy container

These dainty Swan River daisies are perfect for softening edges of pots, and produce flowers from early June right through to October. They work well with simple dimorphotheca flowers, and the bold leaves of kohlrabi.

To get the most from your display, place the container in full sun, as the daisies need warmth as well as light to open their petals.

You Will Need

Total time:

Step 1

Add crocks to the base of the container, to aid drainage. Make sure they don’t completely obstruct the hole, as this can prevent drainage altogether.

Step 2

Fill the pot with the compost mix, topping it off with a 3cm layer of seed compost. Water with a fine rose.

Step 3

Divide the surface into thirds, using sand or vermiculite, creating one section for each plant. Sow the flower seeds 5cm apart, and the kohl rabi seeds 7cm apart.

Step 4

Cover the surface with vermiculite and keep in a sheltered spot. If the pot is outside, protect it with a cloche until the seeds have germinated. Once the first ‘true’ leaves have emerged, thin overcrowded seedlings by gently prising out the surplus with a pencil.
