What is the difference between sowing and planting?

The terms "sowing" and "planting" are often used interchangeably, but there's a subtle difference:

Sowing refers to the act of scattering seeds into the soil. It's the initial step in the germination process.

Planting is a broader term that encompasses placing any type of plant material into the soil, including:

* Seeds: This is when sowing becomes a part of planting.

* Seedlings: These are young plants that have already sprouted from seeds and are ready to be transplanted.

* Cuttings: Pieces of stems or roots that can develop into new plants.

* Bulbs: Underground storage organs that contain buds that can grow into new plants.

* Transplants: Any plant that is moved from one location to another.

In summary:

* Sowing is specifically about placing seeds in the soil.

* Planting is a more general term that includes sowing but also encompasses other methods of putting plants into the ground.

Think of it this way: Sowing is a part of planting, but not all planting involves sowing.
