The word agriculture in a nutshell

Agriculture literally translates as “care of the fields”—in other words, what we often refer to as farming. Indeed, agriculture and farming are nearly synonymous terms. However, we typically use the term “agriculture” to refer to the entire process and science of exploiting the earth to produce food and other valuable plants; and we use the term “farming” to refer to a particular branch of this, such as dairy farming or poultry farming.

Agriculture is a science on an equal level with engineering, medicine, and any other scientific subject in which men and women devote their lives. Numerous disciplines combine to form agriculture’s overall work. Numerous diverse sciences have contributed to agriculture’s current status as a respected and prosperous profession.
