Operations Center updates from John Deere

Operations Center updates from John Deere

John Deere’s cloud-based data management tool, Operations Center, has new navigation, planning features, and a renamed mobile version the company announced mid-January. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic adoption rates of this technology have jumped dramatically, says senior product manager Kyle Plattner.

Consistent navigation

Navigation of Operations Center has been improved to be more consistent between mobile and web versions.

“We know farmers are always on the move, which makes the mobile app version of Operations Center more important than ever,” says Jennifer Badding of John Deere. “That’s why John Deere has made improvements to both versions, web and mobile, to make them look and function in a similar manner, so farmers have clear and easy access to their data from any device.”

Going forward, farmers can use the Operations Center to collect and securely store their field, crop, and machine data from their connected machines for easy analysis and decision making. Since the system is cloud-based, it eliminates the need for transferring data via USB sticks.

Work planner

Farmers may now use the Work Planner feature within Operations Center to streamline their work setup experience and help operators start working more quickly. Work details such as variety, prescription, or guidance lines may be defined prior to heading to the field.

Plattner explains, “In a traditional farming setup, you may have an operator who is less skilled and is running the planter or sprayer, but isn’t the manager. A lot of times when you’re getting that person up and going, you’re there to make sure everything is up and entered the way it’s supposed to be.

What we’ve done with some of our planning tools is enable a farm manager to do all of that input and validation of the right product at the right rate ahead of time, before they get to the field. They can just send it down to the equipment. Now, because of the pandemic where they’re not going to go out to the field and be in the cab with the operator on planting day, they can have an assurance and a confidence that the details they had intended are actually being executed in the monitor without being there in person.”

Mobile version

MyOperations has been renamed Operations Center mobile. The iOS version for Apple phones and tablets is available in the Apple App Store. The Android version will be available from Google Play in the coming weeks. New users may create an Operations Center account at OperationsCenter.Deere.com

Necessary equipment

The company says farmers need four things to make the most of John Deere’s precision ag technologies:

“A Generation 4 display gives farmers control of machine functions with more precision, right from the cab, and the StarFire receiver ensures accurate positioning. JDLink serves as the wireless connection between their machines and streams data from the Generation 4 display to the Operations Center,” says Badding.
