List of schemes and subsidies for aquaculture
These are the list of the subsidies and schemes available for the aquaculture.
Centrally sponsored scheme on Blue revolution
The centrally sponsored scheme on Blue revolution under the integrated development and management of fisheries the state and central subsidies include-
For general category the eligibility of the subsidy is 40% of the project cost.
For other categories like SC, ST, women and their cooperativesthe subsidyis 60% of the project.
North east and hilly areas the subsidy amount is 90% central share and 10% state share.
For the areas such as union territories the subsidy share is 100% central share.
For other states the subsidy rates are 60% central share and 40% state share.
Development of Freshwater Aquaculture (FFDA’s) on going Component
This includes the following subsidies under the FFDA’s scheme.
For the construction of the new ponds the subsidy available is 20% along with ceiling for Rs. 2 lakh and a ceiling of Rs.40,000/ha for all the farmers except SC’s and ST’s for whom it will be Rs.50,000/ha i.e., 25% of the subsidy. For hilly region the subsidy is 25% and the available amount is Rs.60,000/ha for all farmers except SC’s and ST’s where it is Rs. 75,000/ha.
For reclamation/renovation of ponds/tanks the subsidy available is 20% with a ceiling of Rs.12,000/ha for all farmers except SC’s and ST’s where it is Rs. 15,000/ha.
Cost of inputs for finfish culture the subsidy available is 20% i.e., Rs.30,000/ha for all farmers except SC’s and ST’s where it is Rs. 35,000/ha.
For integrated fish farming the subsidy provided is 20% which is of Rs.16,000 where for all farmers except SC’s and ST’s where it is Rs. 20,000/ha i.e., 25%
For freshwater fish seed hatchery where the subsidy is 10% for Rs.8 lakh, for the plain and hilly areas.

National fisheries development board scheme
Construction of new fish/prawn ponds and tanks the subsidy available is 20% for an amount of Rs.3 lakhs for all farmers except SC’s and ST’s where it is 25%.
For renovation of existing fish/prawn ponds and tanksthe subsidy available is 20% for the amount of unit cost for all farmers except SC’s and ST’s where it is 25%.
For establishment of freshwater prawn seed hatcherythe subsidy available is 40% for theunit cost.
For the establishment of fish seed hatchery the subsidy available is 20% for the amount of unit cost for all farmers except SC’s and ST’s where it is 25%.
For the renovation of fish seed farms/ hatchery the subsidy available is 40% for theunit cost.
For running water fish culturethe subsidy available is 20% for the amount of unit cost for all farmers except SC’s and ST’s where it is 25%.
For ornamental fisherieshatchery the subsidy available is 40% for theunit cost.
For reservoir fisheries development, the subsidy provided is 100% grant for stocking offingerlings.
For coastal aquaculture the subsidy provided is 25% of cost subject to a maximum of Rs. 0.60 lakh/ha as subsidy to farmers or entrepreneurs.
The subsidy available for need based financial assistance for development and demonstration of innovative or new technologies is 40% grant to theCentral/State Government Organization/Federation for setting up an aquaculture.
The subsidy available for mariculture is 40% on the unit cost which will not exceed Rs. 28.80 lakh/unit.
The subsidy available for seaweed culture is 40% on the unit cost to women SHG’s and entrepreneurs.
The subsidy available for the development of domestic fish marketing is 40% of capital cost as grant to government fisheries departments, quasi government organizations, local civic bodies, and research institutes.
The subsidy available for infrastructure development for harbours and landing centres is 40% grant to State Governments/ Port Trusts.
Blue revolution – Inland fisheries scheme
Under the Blue revolution inland fisheries scheme, the Government of India, the list of subsidies available with an outlay of Rs.50 crores are mentioned below-

The subsidy available one-time inputs of formulated fish feed to fish farmersfor general is 100% and for SC’s, ST’s, cooperates and NE states is 100%
NABARD Scheme for aquaculture
In order to encourage the farmers and low income people where they can get the subsidy of 60-70% of the recurring cost is for feed in any type of aquaculture unit and especially in brackish water shrimp farming.The farmers are relying on compounded feed which has a price range of ` 45- 50 per Kg which is very costly. Hence NABARD provides subsidy to encourage feed formulations in order to avoid the usage of locallyavailable ingredients.
Eligibility criteria for availing aquaculture subsidy from NABARD
The following criteria are required to select farmers or entrepreneurs to avail the above subsidiesand specially inconsidering the creation of infrastructure facilities for rearing spawn/fry to fingerlings in earthen ponds:
Will check for the past performance of freshwater hatchery of the farmer who applied for/ aquaculture including record of his/ her training in the said activity.
Willingness/ entrepreneurship of the farmer to handle the steps from fish seed rearing to fingerlings on the basis of scientific lines.
Checking for the availability of adequate water facility throughout the year.
Clear details and the title of the land.
If pond/ tank taken on lease which you are planning to setup the aquaculture, a minimum lease period of 10 years would be preferred.
The farmer should contribute towards the working capital.
Farmer need to provide the Bank’s consent for availing the loan/commitment of the entrepreneur responsible for establishing the aquaculture unit, to invest 80% of the unit cost on his own.

Eligibility criteria for availing aquaculture loans
All the farmers and fisherman having knowledge in aquaculture can apply for these loans.
Interest rate
The interest rate for these loans is 12% per annum and the amount of loan sanctioned is 15 to 25% of the project cost.
Repayment period
The repayment period varies from bank to bank and generally the period and is of maximum 48 months.
Collateral need to submit for availing loan
If you want to avail this loan above 1 lakh then you need to submit a collateral of land documents for mortgage, whereas the loan amount availed is below Rs. 1 lakh then no need of any mortgage.
