Wild mustard, Charlock. (Sinapis arvensis)

Claims and comments:

Wild mustard / charlock reduced with 70 – 80 % in first run. As always the results depends on timing and what crop you grow. Using CombCut also reduces the amount of seeds and therefore lessen the problems with wild mustard / charlock  over the years.

Claims supported e.g. by:

(1) Our own field trials.

(2) Many growers using CombCut in Europe.

Claims and comments:

Using CombCut in Canadian thistle infested fields can increase yield withas much as 94% according to Swedish research. This number is of course depending on how bad the fields are infested with thistle but we have had very high numbers also from other sources. The above number 0f 94% comes from a 3 year field trial in barley conducted by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

Cutting is retarding the growth and development of Canadian thistle and reduces seed production significantly. Add in competition from a crop and the production of seeds will reduce additionally. ComCut can thus also be used to cut the flowers and seed heads to prevent seed dispersal. (87 – 100% reduction of produced flower buds)

Cutting reduces the amount of biomass (above-and underground) of Creeping thistle over time. Add in competition from a crop and it reduces the amount of produced biomass (Above-and underground) of weeds further. (68 to 89% reduction of above-ground dry matter (plant), and 66 to 79% reduction of underground dry weight (root)

Deep plowing is a good method to fight thistles in grain production, but it is costly and very energy consuming. Tests in 2014 in Norway with the selective weed cutter CombCut show that this may be an option to control the thistle in organic grain production. Using CombCut weeding Canadian Thistles in oat increased yield with 39%.
