How to plant a hellebore and heather pot

Heather and hellebores are perfect for adding winter colour to the garden. Helleborus x sahinii ‘Winterbells’ is the star of this container display. With nodding blooms and dusky backs to the petals, it’s the perfect accompaniment to the bronze sedge, wood spurge and heathers.

Follow our how-to guide to planting up this hellebore and heather container display in three easy steps.

You Will Need

Step 1

Ensure the drainage holes are clear, then fill around two-thirds with a 50/50 mix of multi-purpose compost and loam-baed compost.

Step 2

Place the large plants at the back of the pot, filling in around the rootball with more compost. Place smaller plants at the front.

Step 3

Firm compost around the plants and water well to settle. Position out of strong winds. Don’t allow the compost to dry out.
