Zimbabwe-Marondera Female Commercial Farmer Applauds Government

Commercial farmers in Marondera have praised the government for empowering indigenous people through land distribution, and have urged other land reform beneficiaries to fully utilize their farms so that the country may achieve food self-sufficiency in line with Vision 2030 aspirations.

During a tour of her farm, Mrs Angelbetta Madzingira, whose Warwick Farm is located along the Marondera to Murewa Road, said this.

She stated that they had planted 40 hectares of wheat this winter season and were anticipating a harvest of at least 200 tonnes.

“I’d like to express my gratitude to the government for providing us with this opportunity as indigenous Zimbabwean farmers.” “Previously, real farming was a privilege reserved for whites,” she explained.

“What I want to tell other indigenous farmers is that farming isn’t about having a lot of land; it’s about maximizing the land’s potential and properly managing it to produce high yields.” As farmers, we must ensure that our country is food secure at all times. Our goal is to expand in the external market as well as create foreign currency for the country.

Mrs Madzingira claimed they had around 150 cattle, 400 goats, and 60 sheep in addition to cropping.

She went on to say that they had also provided over 180 tonnes of grain and 3000 bales of tobacco to the GMB.

Mrs Madzingira added, “We ask to the government to provide facilities to acquire new mechanised irrigation systems.” The farm has 70 permanent staff and hires others on a seasonal basis.
