How to Attract Spring Birds

How to Attract Spring Birds

Spring means the arrival of flowers and greenery, but it also means the arrival of spring birds too! One by one they will make their way back to warmer temperatures, and pick right up where they left off. If you want to attract more birds to your yard this spring, take a peek below at some helpful tips on how to attract spring birds. You will find that with just a few steps, you can create a yard that is bird friendly and inviting.

How to Attract Spring Birds

Do some spring cleaning

Birds love their environment cleaned up just as much as we do. Take the time to wash all bird feeders and bird baths. Just use a mild soap and warm water. It will kill any germs as well as remove any grit and grime. Remove any garbage from the yard that could be a hazard as well as any loose limbs and branches.

Provide some snacks

Who doesn’t love to eat? Birds sure do. Now is the time to restock your feeders with quality birdseed and suet. Be sure all feeders are safe and free from any winter damage as well. Replace any broken feeders and clear away any debris that may be blocking the feeders.

Provide fresh water

Birds love fresh water to drink and bathe in. Provide fresh water in a bird bath (if you installed a winter heater now is the time to remove it) and add a feature to make the water bubble or trickle. These sounds will let the birds know the water is there. Having water bowls around the yard are also appreciated by birds.

Say no to chemicals

While you might be anxious to get your grass growing, now is not the time to use chemicals on your lawn. Doing so can only harm the birds and cause them to go elsewhere.

Provide some spring flowers

Add some spring blooming flowers to your landscape. Hummingbirds will love dining on these and they also provide a ground cover that birds feel safe in.

Protect window areas

Birds may have forgotten where your sliding glass doors and windows are, and can therefore crash into them. Place a piece of black paper that has been cut out into a large bird shape on the window. Hopefully this shadow will cause them to think it is a predator and they will stay away from the windows.

Offer nesting supplies

Place a box of string, yarn, and fabric scraps in the yard that birds can use to build their nests. They will appreciate the hospitality!

The sound of birds in the springtime is nothing short of beautiful. Give these tips a try for attracting spring birds to your yard and enjoy these sounds all season long.
