5 Steps to Growing String of Pearls
- Select a suitable sized pot with good drainage

String of Pearls is a striking succulent that features long beaded tendrils that can grow up to a meter long, making them perfect as a hanging plant. They add a quirky feature to any room.
String of Pearls is a trailing plant that can grow up to 1m in length. They usually trail between 30-60cm long.

The better the soil, the better your indoor plants will grow. Healthy soil is especially important when growing in a limited area. Choose a potting mix that is free draining like Tui Indoor Plant Mix, specially formulated with the right blend of nutrients to give your indoor plants in pots and containers the best start.
Select a container that is a suitable size for your plants. Ensure the container has enough capacity to house the roots of the plants you want to grow. Drainage is also essential, so keep this in mind when choosing your perfect pot.

Check plant labels for individual planting instructions.
- Water plants thoroughly before potting and allow to drain.
- Partly fill your container with Tui Indoor Plant Mix.
- Gently take the plant from the current container (be careful when handling the roots of this plant as).
- Position the plant in the centre of the new container and fill with Tui Indoor Plant Mix up to 3cm from the top.
- Gently firm the mix around the plant. The mix should be at the same level on the plant as it was in the previous container.
Light
The right plant in the right place is the secret to healthy indoor plants. String of pearls like bright, indirect light. Near a window in natural light is a good option, but keep them out of direct sunlight as this can burn the leaves. The plant will not tolerate low light conditions.

Watering
Being a succulent, String of Pearls are sensitive to watering so don't water them too frequently, and allow the soil to completely dry out between each water. Once every two to three weeks is usually enough during spring and summer, and less during winter.
Feeding
String of Pearls don't require heavy feeding. In fact, too much fertiliser can harm your string of pearls. Apply a liquid fertiliser like Tui Enrich Pour & Feed Cacti & Succulent once a month during spring and summer and even less during winter.
Common problems
If the leaves on your String of Pearls have turned yellow or dropped it may be a case of aphids or mealybugs. Use Tui Indoor Plant Insect Spray to control this.
Root rot can also be a common issue due to over watering, it's important to allow the soil to dry out between watering.
Well nourished and cared for plants will be more resilient to common problems including temperature fluctuations, pests and diseases.

This plant is considered mildly toxic, so keep away from pets or small children.
